The SMART Self-Assessment:

The First Step to Adding Value and Improving Profits

This course is for owners and leaders of existing businesses who are interested in performance improvements that add value to their business and ultimately improve profits. The SMART Self-Assessment is one of the best investments you will ever make in the success of your company.

You will evaluate your performance against the Criteria for Performance Excellence, the best measure of outstanding management in the business world. Using this self-assessment, you will be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses in your business. As you work on the areas for improvement, you will see change happen in your business — change that will ultimately enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of your firm.

This is an introductory-level course; no prior knowledge of the Criteria for Performance Excellence is needed. However, this class will be most effective for people who have intimate knowledge of the business and who are in positions within the business to truly effect change.

The entire seminar will take between 10 and 11 hours and is offered over several days.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • The criteria for performance excellence
We'll introduce you to this proven technique for performance improvement that offers you a comprehensive evaluation of your business in terms YOU can understand.

  • Core values
We'll help you understand the core beliefs that underlie successful businesses. You'll be able to translate them to your company and understand how upholding this proven set of values can translate into success for your company.

  • Evaluation using the criteria
Learn how key business factors can exert a powerful influence on how your organization operates and why it does things the way it does. How do you approach your work processes? And how do you deploy them throughout the organization?

  • The importance of processes
You'll examine how you do what you do in your business and discover how those processes can be used to prioritize work, clarify roles, identify improvement opportunities, measure performance and orient new employees.

  • The categories of improvement
Careful examination of the key categories in the Criteria will allow you to "drill down" to find the areas in which your organization is strong and the areas in which you can work to effect improvements. These include a focus on customers and markets; strategic planning; work processes; human resources; information and analysis; and results.

  • How to complete your own self-assessment
The tools you'll receive in this workshop will allow you to periodically assess your own performance and maintain a grasp on the facts that drive your business. One-to-one assistance is available following the training, should you request it.
