Start-Up Checklist
Be sure to consider the following to develop a solid foundation
for your business:
- Research your chosen business. Study the competition, identify
resources, gather information about the industry.
- Consult an attorney. Determine your business legal structure:
Sole Proprietorship, Partnership, Corporation, Limited Liability
Company.
- Consult an accountant. Determine which type of business structure
will work best for you, from a financial perspective. Establish
a record keeping system.
- Prepare your business plan. Include financial objectives, marketing
plan, marketing research and business structure.
- Obtain a Home Occupation Permit from the city, if applicable.

- Contact the state to determine requirements for your business
at the state level. Request a state sales tax application, if

- Determine Federal tax obligations.
- Determine insurance needs. Talk with your agent about liability
and malpractice insurance requirements.
