In 2004, Missouri received
45 awards compared with a pre-MoFAST total of 20 in 2001 moving the State's ranking
of 39th to 27th..
The 2004 totals
resulted in the infusion of $13.1 million federal dollars
into Missouri's entrepreneurial high-technology seed and early stage companies compared to $3.3 million in pre-MoFAST 2001.
These 2004 totals gave Missouri the 4th highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the nation at 58.4%, surpassed only by Mississippi (92.9%), Arkansas (82.8%), and Hawaii (68.4%).
In 2004, MoFAST clients accounted for 51% of the States SBIR/STTR grants funded and 61% of the SBIR/STTR grant dollars received.
In addition, companies that have worked with the MoFAST program on SBIR/STTRs also received addition outside revenues of nearly $70 million dollars through venture or angel capital, ATP and DoD Challenge Grant awards, commercial contracts and acquisitions.
Missouri high-technology companies submitting proposals with experienced MoFAST counselors have a 40% greater chance of being funded compared with pre-MoFAST applications.
Our program has targeted and incorporated women-owned businesses and minorities into the SBIR/STTR delivery process, increasing the number of applicants of women-owned from 7 to 15 and minorities from 2 to 18 during the funding period. This represents 24.6 percent of the proposals submitted, which is close to the percentage of minority and women-owned firms in the small business sector (28 percent).
