Student Perspectives

Ryan Cummings"I think the biggest thing I learned as a P2 intern is to be self-motivated and use every tool available ... it was entirely up to me how far I wanted to take this project."
Ryan Cummings
St. Luke’s
Hospital

Katherine Resler"One of the most important things I think I learned as a P2 intern is how to take a real process and apply engineering knowledge and calculations to make that process more energy efficient, which is so much better than hypothetical book problems."
Katherine Resler
Marceline, Brookfield and Pacific

James Kelsey"The P2 program was an eye opening, out-of-the-classroom experience for me. This program is not some 'locked in an office copying papers all day' type of internship.  You are out in the field, looking at processes in a perspective that businesses may have never imagined before, and producing results which give industry leaders the desire to"go green."
James Kelsey
DRS Sustainment Systems, Inc.

Nicholas Lang"The P2 Program was a great opportunity to apply information from different courses to individual, real world projects.  It offered me the chance to manage my own project, experience the business aspects of engineering, and, most importantly, make a difference."
Nicholas Lang

FAQ

When will the internships start and finish?
The internship runs from May 31 to August 12, 2012. Students must be available to work for the entire internship.

What types of work will I do?
In the past, interns have conducted studies and cost analyses for improvements in lighting, heat recovery, boilers, compressors, furnaces, water and wastewater treatment, process efficiencies, and materials substitution.

What is the structure of the internship?
Interns work for the company and report to a company supervisor. Throughout the summer, interns will have support (if needed) from the P2 Program faculty and staff. Working with management and employees, the intern will compare the feasibility, costs and benefits of various pollution prevention options. Interns will provide the company and P2 Program with a final report and presentation that documents the process, findings and recommendations.

What is the Application Deadline?

The application deadline for the P2 Program is March 30, 2012.
